I once heard a story about a king issuing the court wizard a challenge: find the one sentence that is both the happiest news and the saddest news, all in one.
“This too shall pass” was the answer.
Think about it, though.
In sad times, this is often used to remind us that nothing lasts forever and we will move on from the pit of despair.
But it’s the same when the times are good – we know that they will also pass.
It’s a reminder that there is truly an ebb and flow to life. Pain doesn’t last forever, nor does happiness for that matter.
One always balances out the other.
