The short answer: Don’t. Not that they’re evil or bad or anything remotely like that. But you are allowing another entity to drain you of your precious energy and if you’re living here on planet Earth (and let’s just assume you are!), you will need all your own energy.
The long answer: Yeah, don’t hang out with them.
Let’s talk first about what astral entities are so if you’re new to this topic, you’ll be on the same page.
I’ve blogged about them before but as a refresher, astral entities are energetic pieces of a deceased’s astral body. For whatever reason, those parts have not made the transition from the Earth plane and sustain themselves by glomming onto the life force energy of other humans.
Again, let me stress that there’s no possession or evil intent on the part of those energetic pieces. They are just not ready to leave here.
Those who shine big lights out into the Universe (most if not all Lightworkers) are welcoming beacons for these energies precisely because our lights are so bright. And if you don’t take care of pulling in your energetic boundaries, you could be the unwelcome recipient of a visit by them!
They also like to visit those who may not be sending out big lights but who have holes in their auric field, allowing bits of their energy to peek out. I’ve learned that those who are addicted to alcohol, drugs and other lower-vibrational activities offer an especially rich environment for these entities. They feed off the energies of shame, rage, compulsion, fear and self-pity (among others).
Now, onto why you might not want them hanging out with you.
As I mentioned above, they feed off your energy. That’s how they exist. It’s also how YOU exist. You don’t need to be providing energetic sustenance to anyone but yourself, right?
Here are a few examples of how hosting these energies takes away from your daily life:
1) Are you experiencing intense cravings for junk food, sugar, drugs, sex, etc? That might be a result of having an entity (or multiple ones) in your energy field. Especially if this craving is new or hits you out of the blue.
2) Ever feel “not like yourself”? I have that happen every once in a while where I’m bored inside and nothing makes me happy or brings joy. Like that Bruce Springsteen song “Dancing in the Dark”, you just get “tired and bored with (your)self” – that’s when I know I need a nice clearing of my aura.
3) Violent thought forms (this is, obviously, on the extreme side of the scale) – if you are feeling especially hateful toward others or find yourself driving aggressively when you usually don’t, it’s definitely an indication that something is going on. It could very well be that you’ve got some energies skulking around who are causing some of this.
These are just a few examples of how you can be affected by these energies. There are lots more all up and down the continuum. I’ve heard it said that a good deal of what looks like mental illness is caused by extreme forms of astral entity possession and I would not be surprised to find out the truth of that.
What you can do to avoid hosting these lovely little critters
It’s so important to have good energetic boundaries. So, so important. And especially so if you are one who works with others in that arena. I was fortunate (thanks, Universe!) to find excellent teachers at the beginning of my journey who taught me habits to keep my aura in good shape. (And if you’re an empath, oh lordy! That goes double for you!!)
Here are my suggestions for hanging out your “closed for business” sign to astral entities:
* Start by consciously closing off your energy every day. Here’s a snippet of an affirmation I use (found in a book by Susan Shumsky): “I close off my aura to all but my own higher self and those beings of only the highest vibration who are with me at the choice of my soul” – note the free will piece in there – “at the choice of my soul” – you are taking conscious ownership of your energetic boundaries.
* Note any time you feel “not like you” and look back to see if you’ve been visiting a lot of bars, hospitals, nursing homes, cemeteries – these are all places astrals like to hang out. Even if you’ve not been visiting those establishments, if you’re feeling not like yourself, start doing the affirmation mentioned above several times a day. When you start routinely denying them space, no one will be knocking on your (auric) door after a short time.
* Everything is by intention so if you feel like there’s some stuff in your energy field that doesn’t belong to you, say outloud 3x “All that does not belong to me, please leave.” Call in Archangel Michael if you wish – he’s aces at removing what no longer belongs. Ask him to take what does not belong to you and transmute it with love and light and power for the highest good. He’s always at the ready to help. Take advantage of that help – he can’t intervene without you asking for it.
There’s lots of info out there on the web about astral entities and I’ve listed a few below that I find are accurate according to my experience. If you happen across information that frightens you or intimidates you, click off that page.
There’s no need to be afraid of any of this, truly.
I’ve been in this realm for over ten years and have never, ever been afraid of anything I’ve come across in personal experience. Remember, too, that fear is one of those lower vibrations that allows entities to sneak their way in, so turn away from that energy and keep moving in the direction of Light and Divine Power.
Here are some resources I recommend should you want to read more about astral entities:
Clearing lower astral entities – excellent article on how to remove them once you realize they’ve gained entry into your precious energy.
Freeing yourself from Entity Possession – don’t let the word “possession” freak you out. We’re not talking Exorcist here, K? This is a good site with lots of info on what astrals are, how they affect you and ways to help them move along.
Astral Entities and Spirits: Can they make you go insane or do crazy things: by the marvelous Anna of Psychic But Sane. Anna and I studied with the same teacher and we hold similar views on these topics. I know and respect Anna a lot and you can’t go wrong with any information she shares on a variety of topics.
Have you had an experience with an astral entity? Please share in the comments section.
And if you think you might have some hanging out with you and need some help identifying them or getting them gone for good, email me. I can help.
“Psychic But Sane” – that’s an attention-grabbing website name, isn’t it? I’m sure there are lots of people out there who wonder if psychics are sane. After all, when someone just “knows something” but can’t always tell you specifically how they know that thing, it’s normal to wonder what’s going on.
Regular readers of Practically Intuitive know that sanity is not in short supply here (it’s not, right?) and that’s also the case over at Anna Conlan’s site “Psychic But Sane”. What you’ll find there is a wealth of information, ideas and suggestions on how to develop your psychic ability. Anna believes, as I do, that we all have this skill. It’s just a matter of tuning in and listening.
I mention this as an introduction to my review of Anna’s course called “Psychic Awakening”. Anna and I share a few teachers so I wasn’t at all surprised to find her work resonates strongly with mine. And knowing that we share similar philosophies, I thought it might be fun to give my readers a look into her course.
As a natural researcher and a life-long student, I have an unquenchable thirst for knowing all about things that pique my interest. So when I say I’ve read a lot of material on learning how to work with your intuitive and psychic skills, Guides in Spirit and higher self, you know I’ve done my homework.
“Psychic Awakening”, a course that aspires to teach you how to wake up your psychic abilities is a gem.
Truly, it is.
And here’s why:
Anna has the rare ability to teach on several different levels so no matter what your skill set or training, your time is well spent.
Have you ever been in a class where the teacher presents the material on just one level and either it’s way over your head or you are bored to tears? It’s a very unusual talent to be able to write and teach in a way so that all who listen feel that they learned something. That’s how I felt with this course. I wasn’t bored with it even though it’s information I’ve read in many other places. That’s when you know you’ve run into a great teacher.
This is a course that grows with you – wherever it is you are starting from. I learned some really cool exercises to strengthen my skills and practiced them with exceptional results. The entire course is very readable, well-structured and organized which assists in building confidence in the new found skills.
The course consists of a well-organized PDF document, broken down into three distinct sections:
** First: laying the groundwork for connecting with your higher self and spirit guides.
** Next: techniques to communicate with your spirit guides and higher self
** Finally: practicing these techniques to gain confidence
In addition to the written materials, Anna provides 13 MP3 tracks that reflect the written material adding things here and there such as meditations. (BTW, she has the most lovely accent and it’s easy to float along listening to her voice and the high vibration.) Each chapter consists of information, often a bit of Anna’s personal experience with it and exercises for you to integrate what you’ve just learned. While there’s a lot of information, it’s not overwhelming. I read a chapter at a time and let it digest a bit before moving to the exercises. There’s a nice, peaceful flow to the material.
Who would benefit from this course
While I’d like to say that just about anyone would benefit from Anna’s course, I am reminded of my husband who would consider it torture to learn about this. (He’s happy in his fantasy football league world.) So, I’d narrow down the list to those who are just learning about psychic abilities and wondering what theirs might be as well as those who have a sincere desire to take their present skills to another level. As I said earlier, it’s a course that grows with you. Here I am, with over ten years in the intuitive skills arena and a practitioner myself and I learned some new techniques from it.
If you’re at all intrigued by this course, pop on over to Psychic But Sane and read more about it. She’s put a lot of work into this and it shows. (And really, it’s amazingly priced so just about anyone can afford it. It’s an immediate download of PDF and MP3s so you can get to work right away.)
Anna’s tagline for the course is: “The Most Complete Course You’ll Find on the Internet for Developing Your Psychic Abilities” and I agree 100%.
As I mentioned in another post, I spend a lot of time online. From the first moment I was introduced to this new-fangled thing called ‘the internet’, I was hooked. For an information seeker, there is no better place to be than online.
(And yes, back in the day I spent a LOT of time at the library.)
Periodically, I’ll be showcasing some of what I find out there for you. Some of it will center on intuitive subjects, some on spiritual and some on cool stuff like how to make banana ice cream using just bananas and milk.
Oh yeah, one other thing. I, um, have a love for all things LOLcat. A profound love. Some might call it an obsession, even. Don’t be surprised to see them popping up here now and again. I just can’t help myself.

The Daily Brainstorm
This site is relatively new but chock full of awesome stuff on topics such as Self-Development, Spirituality, Health, Food, Money and Blogging. In fact, it was through TDB that I found the most awesome Banana Ice Cream recipe. If you hunger for information on a variety of topics but don’t have time to blog-hop, check out this site. There’s more than enough there to satiate even a info-junkie like me.
Peaceful Planet Communication
Found this site because it had an article posted on The Daily Brainstorm. I dug around a bit and decided to bookmark it because there’s lots of good tips, tricks and info there. (She puts a LOT of work into it, that’s easy to see.)
The particular article that drew me in, “The Zen Master’s Unexpected Lesson: 10 Tips for Empathy was interesting for me to read, probably because, as a natural empath, I do a lot of this anyway. It’s easy for me to slip into the shoes of another and feel what it’s like to be them. (It’s a little too easy, which is why I learned to turn it on and off at my own choice.)
But I forget that most people (8 out of every 10) are NOT empaths and so for them (you?) it’s more difficult to view things through the eyes of another. Leah McLellan, the author, gives some great tips on how to do that in your day-to-day life. (I particularly liked her comments on how to stop your own road rage even though it’s very rare that I get to that place in my own life.)
Psychic But Sane
Anna Conlan and I seem to be walking a very similar path. Both of us have studied with Andrea Hess and I suspect that we have a couple more teachers in common that we’ve yet to discover.
She has created a wonderful course called Psychic Awakenings which I will be reviewing in a future post (probably sometime in August). I can tell you, just from what I’ve read so far, it’s quite different than anything out there. Anna has the ability to speak on several different levels from beginner to advanced and that’s a rare quality. I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know already!
Her site really speaks to her work – it’s down-to-earth and casual. She brings that same quality to her writing whether it’s about learning to work with your Guides in Spirit or ruminating on whether psychics are crazy people. (they’re not. Right? hah) If you enjoy what I write here, go now and visit Anna. Definitely worth your time.
That’s all for this week’s Wandering Around Wednesday.
