Podcast #46: I’m so scared, you guys!

Hi everyone and welcome to the Practically Intuitive Podcast.  This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com.

Were you following along with me through the July Ultimate Blog Challenge? I went above and beyond and made it to 34 straight days of posting before I stopped.  I wanted to keep going but had three sessions and a long chat with a friend in crisis Saturday and just ran out of wisdom and oomph for the day.  I’ll be picking it back up though perhaps not at an everyday pace as before.   I found my writing mojo and really enjoyed it.

Today I’m going to share a secret with you and you have to promise me that you won’t tell anyone, okay? Promise?

I’m scared to death.  I mean like really scared.  Almost paralyzed scared.

Of what?

The coming end of the world according to the Myans?  Oh heck no! I’m ready for that.

Of riding a bike down the side of a volcano in Hawaii? Nah, been there, done that. (Well, done part of that until I almost plunged myself off the side and rode the rest of the way down in a car.)

Nope, I’m scared of going for a complimentary session at the local Crossfit gym.  (If you aren’t familiar with crossfit, it’s involves working from your core using kettlebells, weights and other strength training methods.)

The thing is, I’m not even going for a workout! I’m going for a free session to see if this is right for me.

I’m scared to pieces.

So what the heck is my deal??

Surely, you’ve heard me mention David Neagle, right? He’s a coach, yes, but more than that he’s a modern philosopher.  He takes ages-old wisdom and makes it understandable and practical for us today.  Once in a while, he reads passages from books such as Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” or Raymond Holliwell’s “Working with the Law” and I think to myself : “I know he’s speaking English and I recognize those words but I have no idea what he’s saying.”

But then when David breaks it down and translates it, I get it.  I see the wisdom inherent in the words and how to put it into action.  He has a no-nonsense, take no BS kind of approach (much like Caroline Myss) and I love it.

Anyway, back to my story.  I’ve been participating in Neagle’s course called “The Miracle of Money: Know your enemy”.  During this week’s lecture he challenged us by saying that limitation was all in our mind.  That limitation was an illusion.

He asked us to step into the understanding that God is within us.  He defined seeing God within us in part as  “the side of us that’s capable of accomplishing anything” and asked this very pointed question:  “What do you need to walk though in your life to show you that God is inside you?”

And my response?

Crossfit.

Why? Well, he went on to ask us to look at one thing we are almost certain we can’t do.  The thing that scares us the most.  The thing that causes us to run away.

Crossfit.

I can do deep emotional work on my own or with clients and I revel in it.  I can go to hell and back with someone and never question it or worry that I won’t get through it.  But put me squarely in my body and ask me to do something hard and I’m a mess of jello.

Not only does a crossfit workout put you right into that body, it asks you to test the limits of what your physical body can do.  Yeah, no.  I can barely even think about that.

I have no burning desire to do this.  What I do have is a teeny tiny nudge that started when my pal AJ mentioned a website where they cook special protein based meals for you and deliver them for pickup at local crossfit gyms.  Finding out that they deliver to one near me was pretty cool.  I looked around the crossfit site and thought it was interesting but not for me.  On I went with my little life.

When David Neagle posed the question about the thing we are certain we can’t do – it hit me so hard and so fast that I almost passed out. Mind you, I was driving at the time so that’s not a good thing.

This morning I sent an email to the local crossfit gym explaining my situation and asking if the program was appropriate for me or should I start in another place.  The response I got back made me burst into tears.

In part, she said:

This entire thing is a process and it is HARD to change habits after a lifetime of not knowing what we didn’t know!  You are NOT the only one who feels this way and good on you for wanting to make changes in your life.  We do not take this lightly and know that we are here to support you through your journey.

So, that being said, “CrossFit” can be a solution for anyone.  Literally ALL of our workouts can be scaled to meet anyone’s fitness level so please don’t be scared.  I fully understand how intimidating it looks but I promise that our community doesn’t bite.  This is about YOU as well, so don’t worry, we don’t expect you to compete with the likes of the people on the videos you may have seen on CrossFit.com.

As soon as I read her email (and dried my eyes), I went to facebook and the first picture that popped up on my wall was an illustrated quote  by Louise Hay that said “Be willing to take the first step no matter how small it is. Concentrate on the fact that you are willing to learn.  Absolute miracles will happen”

Okay, so more tears. (And yeah, what’s with the waterworks??)

I may find out that crossfit isn’t right for me but I won’t know for sure until I go.  Just getting there is a bit step for me.

And my secret?

I’m not telling anyone – not the husband, not the cousin who is herself a crossfit queen, not my best buddy at work because I’ll be setting myself up for their judgment.  And I need to just go on my own and listen to my own inner voice that’s nudging me forward.

But I am telling you guys because I want to show you that we all have our hard things to work through. I easily swim in deep emotion but being in my body scares me to death.  Someone else might be Joe Bodybuilder but is terrified at the thought of putting himself out there and being vulnerable.   We all have our own issues and fears.

Neagle says that the goal is not the point at all.  The jewel is what you go through getting there.  All the lessons you need and want are right there.

I’ll let you guys know how it goes as I step forward into what scares me to death.

What is your one thing that you’re almost certain you can’t do? Is the limitation for real or is it created in your mind to keep you safe?

To help you not only pinpoint what that is but what your sweet, special nudge forward might be, I’m inviting you to a private one-on-one call with me at a special discounted rate just for the month of August.

The warm response I got back from Drea at the crossfit gym helped me realize even more how much it means to have someone who understands what you’re struggling with.

I can be that one for you and help find that place inside you that is stronger than you know.

That’s all for this week.  I hope you’ll keep checking in at Practically Intuitive.com for my posts and join me over on facebook as well.

This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – bye for now!
