Last week, I had the good fortune to interview the wonderful Glenyce Hughes – did you listen in?
Check it out here:
We talked about ways empaths and other highly-sensitive people can stay in their own energy and not get caught up in everyone else’s. Glenyce mentioned a tool that seemed to fly against conventional wisdom in the energy/Woo community.
Here it is: instead of closing your aura, bringing your energy inward, setting up protective boundaries and generally making yourself energetically smaller, why not open up and E X P A N D?
Well, there’s a new concept!
Really? I thought. Hmmm. Interesting.
Expand your energy out and out and out so that you get bigger instead of smaller.
I’m so used to shutting off, closing down, running away (mentally) from stuff that to open up and expand feels … scary? odd? foreign? to me.
What happens when you do that? I wondered if I’d be asking for everyone’s yuck to come flying at me which I really (really!!) don’t want. But I’m trying it (because, hey, why not?) to see what happens when I bring my big energy out.
Remember that any time you shift something big (and doing this IS a big deal, even if you don’t think it is), those around you might not take to it immediately (or at all!). I bet, though, it feels so empowering that you won’t want to go back to contraction and smallness.
Your challenge for the week is this: in situations where you are used to closing off your energy (disagreements with your partner, visiting hospitals or cemeteries, volatile environments), consciously choose to move your energy outward. Reach out to the very ends of your being (guess what? There IS no end!) and create space for your energy to flow.
Email me and let me know what that felt like to you. Was it cool? Scary? Weird? What happened when you tried it?
PS: “How much space do I need to occupy for this not to affect me?” – another good question Glenyce mentioned. If you’re not sure how big to project out, ask this and trust (TRUST!!) what you receive back as an answer. (There were lots of useful questions like these on the call – it was just 30 minutes long – go listen!)

How excited was I to find out I made the list of the Top 100 Best Personal Development blogs?
Pretty damn excited, that’s how much!
The rankings were partially based on Alexa ratings from largest to smallest (in audience size). I came in at #91 (just squeaking through but happy happy about it!). You can read all about how they were determined over at the The Start of Happiness.
I’m in really awesome company on that list! My pal (and new-mom-to-be-any-day-now) Lindsay from The Daily Awe came in at #84, Angela Artemis, fabulous intuitive teacher came in at #37 with Powered By Intuition and well-known thought leader Danielle Laporte came in at #11.
If you’re looking for some inspiration, new ideas, interesting ways to look at every day things, check out some of the blogs on this list. I’ve read many, many of them for years and love seeing what wonderful things each person shares through his or her own lens.
Isn’t it a wonderful thing that we have the ability to be creative and share ourselves this way?
Here’s to making it into the top 50 for 2013! (or at least under 90! hehe)
(Thanks to my good friend and nudge-giver Christine for the inspiration!)
“You will either step forward into GROWTH, or you will step back into SAFETY.”
– Abraham Maslow
Doesn’t it suck that this is true? I think it does because moving forward is hard. Especially when it feels like the densest of fog ahead of you along with quicksand beneath your feet. (Oh hai, Lisa’s current state of mind!)
David Neagle has often mentioned the “terror barrier” – It pretty much shows up any time you are on the verge of breaking out of your comfort zone. That voice that says “OH HELL NO! I’m not doing that!”
Sometimes the terror barrier shows up as a wall you slam into – the project that leads you down 50 dead end roads, the post you can’t seem to finish for your blog (is this just me?), the way you try to stall your crossfit appointment until another day (again, just me?).
Other times, it’s the slow slide into sloth where you decide that you didn’t want that thing anyway (whatever “that thing” is) or how it doesn’t make sense for you to do it; better to continue doing what you’re doing already.
However it shows up, it’s about your ego keeping you safe. That’s its main function anyway – keeping you alive and safe. When your ego self perceives what you’re about to do as being “scary and unsafe” it goes into overdrive. All the “Danger Will Robinson” flashing lights come on and it tries seven ways to Sunday to get you to stop in your tracks NOW.
According to Nancy Roberts at Q&A with Nancy:
Once you hit a certain level of success (or income, or weight) if your new state doesn’t match your sub-conscious belief of what you deserve, you will unconsciously sabotage yourself. And since the sub-conscious mind controls about 96 to 98% of our behavior (sad but true!), even if your conscious mind wants to sustain the goal, the sub-conscious wins out.
I’ve been struggling with this stupid thing for a week or so now. I wanted to write a post about how important your teacher’s vibration was and when it’s time to move on from a teacher.
I tried three times to write that post.
The last time I tried, right in the middle of it I decided it would be really fun to create a Facebook page for my cat. So I spent the next 90 minutes doing that, taking pictures of her and writing (what I thought was) witty commentary to create this fictional character.
FB page for my cat? Lovely with lots of new fans.
Clearly, there’s something about writing that post (because it has to do with my very own break a couple years ago from one of my most influential teachers) that scares the hell out of me. It also scared me into bailing on my Thursday Crossfit session because I just couldn’t get my butt off the couch. I forced myself to go Friday but cried my way through the session. That terror barrier is tough, I know it.
So, how do you get past it because it doesn’t just show up once. (Dammit!) It shows up every. single. time. you move out of your comfort zone into new, uncharted territory.
David Neagle’s mentor, Bob Proctor, shares his thoughts about how to get past it:
How to be a wrecking ball on your own Terror Barrier
“1. Bulldoze through it scared. That’s right … just keep marching, no matter how badly your feet want to stay rooted to the ground. Refuse to permit this negative demon to control you, your emotions …your future.
2. Remember – the Terror Barrier rears its ugly head every time we attempt to make a major move in life into an area we have never traveled before. It’s as natural as day and night. Where before you used to let it stop you cold, now you can simply shrug and tell yourself, “Oh, there it is again. Well! This must really mean something great to me!”
3. Then, further remind yourself that it might be an unknown, but the other side of that Terror Barrier will have you that much closer to your goal. I’d encourage you to fall in love with THAT feeling of accomplishment, get wrapped up in it! I often say that if your goal doesn’t scare and excite you at the same time, you’re going after the wrong goal!
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” That is excellent advice. By following her advice you will liberate yourself from the crippling emotional state that the Terror Barrier causes.
Do it scared. Begin to visualize yourself successfully being a wrecking ball on that Terror Barrier of yours. Mentally see yourself winning. Remember, perception IS reality!”
Perception IS reality, indeed.
Where is YOUR terror barrier?
How does it stop you right in your tracks?
What is ONE NEW ACTION you can take to navigate it today? (Even if that’s just the awareness that it exists, that’s one step forward.)
Let us know in the comments – we all can use some support in this!
I’m posting this article written by one of my teachers, David Neagle. In it, he mentions the Law of Polarity, one of the Laws by which the Universe operates in an orderly fashion. I talk about this Law sometimes in my work and liked his explanation of it (below).
If you’re not familiar with Neagle, go check him out and while you’re there, download the free 4-part audio “The Art of Success” – it’s his seminal work and has big fat chunks of wisdom packed inside 4 hours.
Manifest Your Prosperous Idea
If you’ve been following this goal-setting series, you’ve identified what needs to leave and come into your environment, and you’ve made an unwavering commitment to your goal.
You are now ready for it to manifest.
Get Emotionally Involved
To start moving your idea from the nonphysical to the physical, you have to become emotionally involved in it.
Imagine how your project will feel when it comes to fruition. Think about it all the time. Fan your desire for it into a white-hot flame.
Why is that important?
Emotions are like the engines behind our thoughts, which by themselves are neutral.
When you imbue your idea or any thought with emotion, you send it zinging through time and space, and the Universe starts bringing you what you need to manifest it.
If you stay emotionally connected to your project, it will manifest quickly.
If you fall into doubt and recant on being willing and able, you return to ground zero. You have to start again.
I know…if you’ve never consciously manifested something before, it is difficult to keep the faith.
Just remember that the moment you had the idea it came into existence along with the means to manifest it.
That’s the promise of the Law of Polarity.
Instant Manifestation and the Law of Polarity
The Law of Polarity states that everything in the universe has an opposite. There would be no inside to a room without an outside. Every up has a down and every down has an up.
Not only does everything have an opposite, but it is equal and opposite. If it’s three feet from the floor to the top of the table, it’s three feet from the top of the table down to the floor.
The opposite of a question is its answer, so when you have an idea, the way to manifest that idea is also present. They’re like two different sides of the same coin.
People think that wealth and poverty are two different things, but they’re not. They’re just opposite sides.
This is true for any ill effect you’re experiencing, whether it is debt or lack of prospects, sales or money.
If you’re experiencing the opposite of the thing that you want, that thing is also around you. You just don’t perceive it.
This is why instant manifestation is real. Once you can perceive it, it’s already there.
Bang! It comes right into your field of vision. You have it. It’s yours.
Yes, you do have to shift your perception in order to see ~ and experience ~ the other side of the coin.
I’ll show you how to do that next time.

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts
Hi everyone and welcome back to the Practically Intuitive Podcast. This is Lisa from Practically Intuitive.com – always nice to have you listening in!
As I mentioned in the last podcast, changes are afoot at Practically Intuitive. Within the next month or so, I’ll be discontinuing one-time readings and moving to a bigger way to support you. I’ll still be calling in your Guides and Teachers, walking through the Akashic Records to look at your soul work and removing those cords of attachment but it will be as pieces of a larger process. If you are interested in a single session, this month is the time to do that.
More information on my new program coming soon. Stay tuned.
I also have a goodie I want to share with a lucky reader! A colleague of mine, Sarah Seidelmann, created a really cool app for your phone or ipad called “what the walrus knows” – it’s a way to connect more deeply with your animal totems as they show up in your life. You can read more about it at followyourfeelgood.com.
Sarah’s graciously given me a special secret code that unlocks “what the walrus knows” app for one of you guys out there! All you have to do to enter the contest is leave a comment on the post for this podcast either about the topic or why you think this app would be a good fit for you. I’ll choose the winner at random at the end of the week.
One of the things most important to me is self-authority. The more I engaged with guides and teachers, the more I see how necessary it is for us all to take responsibility for what shows up in our life, knowing that on some level we called it to us. We might have done it unconsciously but it comes just the same. From a place of ownership, you can effect real and lasing change.
So, when I talk about self-authority, I’m speaking about the choices you make in your life about what to believe in, what actions to take based on those beliefs and the knowledge that you can significantly affect what shows up for you by claiming ownership of your life.
How do you get there, though, if you’ve been putting your faith in some thing, some one outside yourself for a good part of your life?
If you’ve been seeking validation for your choices from your parents, teachers, spouse – how do you begin to work toward that self-authority?
First, you have to see the value in doing so.
There’s lots of value in owning your own ideas, desires and thoughts. Most importantly, you increase the chances of getting them when you own them big time. Wayne Gretzky once said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” And that applies here as well. You will never get what you wish if you don’t first put it out there – to your spouse, to the Universe. You have to claim it and bring it into consciousness. It also reinforces the idea that you get to decide what you want in your life. Stuff doesn’t just happen to us. Really. It doesn’t. Whether you bring it into your life consciously or from a deeply buried place you don’t even know exists, you’re actively deciding what shows up for you each and every day. Make what shows up a reflection of what you truly want.
Second, understand that with great power comes great responsibility.
Once you know you have the power to receive what you want, you need to be much more discerning about what you put out there.
For example, let’s say you share with your spouse or partner that you’ve always wanted to be a teacher. You’re not even sure what you want to teach but you know that desire has always been in you. They ask you how you plan to make that a reality. You shrug. (Seriously, you just claimed it! Why do you have to know what to do with it?? J) A week later your partner asks again ‘”thought anymore about what you want to do with that teaching thing?” “no,” you respond and quit asking me about it, you think.
That’s the thing – when you claim something and put it out to the Universe, forces start coming together to help you get it.
That naggy spouse? Part of those forces. They remind you that you claimed it and are helping move you to the next place. Silently thank them for helping keep you on track even if the way they do it feels crappy.
Begin to move toward what you claimed – in the case of a teacher, that may be researching online certification classes or looking for a volunteer position you can do to get some experience.
The skies are not immediately going to part and bestow upon you the perfect teaching position where you’ll make a buttload of money and love every second. That’d be cool but it ain’t gonna happen. The lesson is in the journey to get there.
If you claim it, you are telling the Universe that it’s important to you.
Do that with consciousness and intention, though, because your Guides start getting things moving and shaking so that you can realize this desire. Be sure it’s something that feels right for you.
Bottom line: self-authority is really about what you want and what shows up in your life. It’s also about how you discern what is true for you versus what you’re told is true. As you develop and trust that inner knower, you are able to make clearer decisions and your life will be a much better fit for you.
As you go through your day, give some thought to what is showing up for you and if it’s something you want in your life. If it’s not, how can you claim your own authority and ask for something different? Even just allowing the idea that you get to choose a different outcome is empowering! Try it and see!
That’s all for this week. If you have thoughts or comments about self-authority that you want to share, please come on over the Practically Intuitive.com and leave me a comment! This is Lisa from PI.com, have a lovely fall week! Bye for now.
