from Practically Intuitive Podcasts
Hi again, and welcome to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcast. I’m Lisa, your host now with the froggy voice. Kids, don’t go stand on line in 37 degree weather for five hours without a coat to see your favorite musician. Just saying. So please excuse any pre-pubescent squeaks in my voice this week.
As we’re coming upon Thanksgiving here in the United States, it’s common for us to speak out loud about all we’re thankful for. Jobs, health, family and friends – these are all wonderful things for which to be grateful.
But what about being grateful for the hard things, the crappy situations you find yourself in, the relationships that didn’t work out, the jobs you didn’t get? Can you find space in your heart to be thankful for those, too?
That’s when gratitude is the hardest, isn’t it? But can you consider for just one moment that you’ve created all of it – the good and the bad – on a soul level in order to gain lessons and to evolve and grow?
People get very touchy when this topic is broached – that you have created every single experience in your life in order to grow and evolve. They’ll argue that they didn’t ask to get breast cancer or to lose their home to foreclosure – who in their right mind would even ask for that?
If you can step back and look at things with your spiritual eyes, as Tom Jacobs calls it, you’ll begin to see the truth of this, though. Before we incarnate into the physical, we make contracts and agreements with others on a soul level to experience certain things in this life so that our soul can truly evolve and move forward on the path. Many of these experiences are wonderful and life affirming. Some are not.
My dad became a type 1 diabetic at age two, studied to be a priest and was asked to leave the monastery because he became ill while caring for alcoholic priests, went blind at 32 and lost both legs to diabetes at 44. Who would choose a life like that?? That’s a bowlful of hardship, isn’t it? What lessons could he possibly have asked for in this incarnation that warranted that? I don’t have an answer to that. Only his soul knows.
I can tell you, though, that he was truly grateful for every moment of it. He told me that. He knew that in all the hardship and pain was a gift of growth and something he asked for at soul level. My dad was able to see things through his spiritual eyes and that’s helped me do that, too.
It’s not easy to look at the pain and suffering that’s occurred in your life and understand the choices that were made to get to that place (again, on a soul level). But they’re there. And understanding why and how those choices came about, what you learned from them and how to move forward with that knowledge is so important.
Please don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying that a 3 year old child consciously asks for a debilitating disease or that we’re all wishing on bad things to happen. What I AM saying is that everything that occurs in our life and everything we will create in the future is a part of the soul’s learning path. In order to evolve as that soul, we are here on earth creating different experiences for just that purpose.
Being grateful for the good things and the not-so-good things allows us to understand that it all happens so that we can fully experience everything we incarnated to do. And being in gratitude acknowledges that we see the bigger picture.
Just a reminder that my e-book “Trust What You Get” is on sale for $19.99. You can find a link to it here. And I’m off this whole week so if you’d like a daytime session, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d love to work with you.
That’s all for this week. It goes without saying but heck, I’ll say it “I’m thankful for all the friends I’ve made this year, all the clients I’ve worked with and for being able to do the work of my heart.” I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family or even if you like to sit in the quiet and read a book and nibble turkey sandwiches – whatever you do, I wish you peace.
This is Lisa, who is thankful her voice held out for the podcast, from Practically Intuitive – have a wonderful week. Bye for now.

Lauren and me 2005
I do! I hear angels and guides, why not dead people, right?
In this week’s podcast, I share a bit about what it’s like to communicate with those who have crossed over and why conversations with them often bring peace and comfort. My goddaughter, Lauren (pictured above), was a catalyst in bringing out in full force my abilities as a medium. My relationship with her after she transitioned has convinced me that there is so much more than we can even imagine.
Take a listen!
The Practically Intuitive Mediumship page is up and running!
In coming weeks, our forum will be open and you can join in and share your stories with others.

from Practically Intuitive Podcasts
Hi and welcome to the weekly Practically Intuitive podcasts!
I’m Lisa and you can find me at PracticallyIntuitive.com, where I take a look at intuition and how you can bring it even more fully into your life. I also talk about other things such as healing cords of attachment, co-creating with your Guides and Teachers in spirit and even communicating with those loved ones who have crossed over.
And that’s my topic for this week: talking with the dead. Appropriate for Halloween , isn’t it?
Now, I haven’t always been able to hear the deceased like I have guides in spirit. But when I attuned my inner hearing better, I began picking things up for others. It started very clearly for me when I gave Reiki sessions for people. The Reiki energy is a beautiful frequency and through that vibration, I was able to pick up in great detail messages for those who were on my table during a session.
These messages were always loving and brought great comfort to my clients and I was overjoyed to be the messenger for them. I started watching Lisa Williams, a medium who had a television show, and would match what I was getting with what she got and it was almost always on the mark. But more than accuracy, which I do, of course, care about, was the compassion she provided, the closure, the peace that others were able to get after having spoken with their loved ones. I considered offering sessions doing just that and spoke with my Guide team about it. They said that it’s one of my gifts and that I could bring it out if so called.
Well, I’ve gotten the call. And I’ll now be offering these sessions to my clients. But more about that later.
If you’ve read the “about me” part of my site, you know that my 19 year old goddaughter Lauren passed away in 2006 from cancer. And though I’ve not had a child of my own in this lifetime, Lauren was as close as I’d ever get to it. She was my friend, my joy, and one of the greatest blessings in my life. Losing her, even though I knew it was coming, was devastating. The grief was so intense – I’d sit and stare out the window for hours at a time, numb to everything but my pain. I can only begin to wrap my head around the pain her parents felt as they walked the path with her – and alone after she was gone. If my grief was this great, what must the depths of theirs be?
The only thing that helped me heal was my exquisite faith that she was not really gone and that we’d see each other again. And this was confirmed for me when she began to show up in so many ways that there was just no denying it. It happened with her mother as well. We’d compare Lauren sightings all the time. Through my contact with her in the afterworld, I began to understand much more of what happens when we pass over and how true it is that our loved ones are around us all the time. We just have to know how to tune in.
And that’s what I can do – I can adjust the switch on my inner radio dial and connect with loved ones on the other side. As I’ve mentioned, it most often happens to me in the bathroom. I don’t know why, but my aunt came to say goodbye to me there before she left the earth plane, a co-worker’s mother who had recently passed began dictating a message to me in the bathroom (and I had to ask her to wait until I was near a pen and paper). It happens a lot. I think I read that there’s something about the water frequency that makes it easy for those in spirit to connect.
The messages that come through are so loving and offer so much comfort. After my mom died, I was telling people at the funeral home that I think she loved my husband more than me because he was so very attentive to her all the time and I had sorta fallen down on that often. After the funeral, my friend Regina, a clairvoyant, (who was, by the way NOT at the funeral home) came up to me and said she had a message from my mom saying, “I love you best.” She relayed. So yes, they hear us, all the time. You don’t have to do anything special for them to hear you. No special chants, incantations, lighting of candles are needed. Just speak from your heart, wherever you are and know you are heard.
If you have issues that you’d like closure on or just want to connect with your loved ones, I’d welcome the opportunity to be of service. Never be afraid of what comes through – there is only love from that side and peace.
We get so much support from those who have lived through the pain and grief and it really speeds up the healing process. I promise a safe place where you can share your thoughts and feelings. In a session, I offer a very safe and loving place to connect with those you wish to contact and heal what is in your heart.
Yes, I still get very teary-eyed when I think of my goddaughter, Lauren, but I know, without question, that this is not all there is and so much more awaits us on the other side.

Don’t you wish you knew what your pet was thinking about? For them, life is pretty simple and mostly they are happy to please you, however that happens. (With cats it’s a bit trickier but for the most part they want to make you happy too!)
I first found out I could communicate with pets when I was in a deep meditation one evening. As I sat there in some altered state, I could hear the words “I am a cat. I’m a cat. A cat. C A T spells cat.”
I peeped my eye open and there was my sweet (but sorta intellectually challenged) cat Midjull. I could hear what he was thinking! That was an interesting development. (That Midjull was even thinking at all was a surprise to me, bless his dearly departed soul.)
I looked over at my other cat, Murphy and heard the words “Mommy, you’re not feeding me enough. I’m hungry.”
Hmmm. Still not sure what was going in, I focused my newfound skill on “MommyCat” (Midjull’s mom) and heard her say “I am a sophisti-cat“. Alrighty there, Mommy. You just go on with your bad sophisticat self.
Last but not least was Lucie (yes, I had a lot of cats at that time. What of it??) who said “I like when you do that tummy noise thing to me, Mommy.”
I distinctly heard each one of my cats speak to me. I was used to reading my dog – dogs are so much easier – but this was definitely something new. Ending my meditation (because, really, hadn’t I done enough? I heard cats talking to me, for pity sake!), I called my mom with this exciting news!
Her reply: “Oh honey, are you sure you’re not going insane?”
(I only wish I were kidding. Alas, she really did say that.)
Moms. Gotta love ’em, right? (sigh)
Anyway, I recently had two clients ask me to tune into their pets to see what was going on. I hadn’t made a conscious effort in several years to do that but sure, I’m game. I was actually surprised how much came through and how clearly I heard what the pet needed. Telling me their names as I pass them on the street is one thing, but sharing their animal souls with me? That was way cool.
If you’re going through some challenges with your own furry little companion, I’d love to tune in for you and see what they have to share. Check out my newly updated Readings and Healing Work page for more details.
Here’s a testimonial from my friend and client Kimberly G about her dog Rodrigo (pictured above).
When Lisa came into my life I couldn’t have imagined just how much impact she would have on my world by opening my eyes to so many new possibilities.
I am the proud mommy of two adorable dogs. Rodrigo, my “Boy King” as Lisa calls him, is strong willed and had taken on the role of Alpha. Although he loves me I knew that he needed something from me that I wasn’t providing; he seemed frustrated. Lisa was able to quickly let me know that he wanted (1) respect and (2) to know his role in the family. It didn’t take long at all for Rodrigo and I to come to an understanding. He is now our our much loved and respected guard dog. He has conceded the role of Alpha to me.
In the weeks after our session with Lisa, Rodrigo has returned to his adorable, sweet, loving self. I get a chuckle watching him at night as he patrols his yard. He’s exhausted and happy every morning. Rigo is an adolsescent so I still have to remind him of the rules from time to time; overall, he’s a well behaved dog. Even my boyfriend, the skeptic, admits that there has been a vast improvement. I’m looking forward to another session with Lisa – I’d like to know Rigo’s take on the changes.
Actually, they’re neither. And what the heck are these astral entity things anyway? And further, why am I writing about them?
You ask some good questions, Gentle Reader!
This topic is pretty important to understand even a little bit if you are going to be accessing your intuitive skills, whether for yourself or professionally for others. Also, I’ve had about four clients lately who have these energies so strongly within their auric makeup that I have to clear them before I can do a reading. A pattern like that will usually get my attention.
So, let’s talk about them for a bit but I want to emphasize something before I jump into the topic: Most, if not all, astral entities are harmless. They aren’t little evil monsters you cannot see hanging on to your energy field, causing you to do bad things. Don’t go getting all into the fear vibration. Just know they exist and they can be pretty easily removed often creating a noticeable difference in how you feel.
Here’s a pretty decent definition I found for what an astral entity is:
You might have heard this term before – it’s pretty common in the world of energy work. Astral entities defined here on this page about ghosts and entities:
Entities are often found attached to the life force of humans. Though in many many cases the host will never know they have a foreign piece of debris attached to them. But a pernicious entity can create food cravings, addictions and emotional swings. However, before you blame the entity on all your troubles, be aware of the saying like attracts like. An entity will be attracted to a host it can feed on, meaning if it’s life has been one of disappointment and sorrow and so is yours, you will make a good match. If you do not have these issues then you need not worry too much.
Entities are parts of a deceased’s astral body (mind or emotional body) that did not dissolve after death. It remains earthbound and awaits a new nest. Hospitals are a nice playground for pesky entities, as are cemeteries and funeral homes.
This is but one reason why I close off my aura to “all but my own higher self and those beings of only the highest vibration who are with me at the choice of my soul” (part of the Self-Authority Affirmation) when I go to hospitals, nursing homes and funeral homes.
I learned how to remove astral entities in an intensive workshop taken several years ago. In it, I learned ways to release negative thought forms, move out astral entities and psychic coercion removal. You’d be surprised how handy it’s been (even as a non-professional intuitive) to know those skills. In fact, the Self Authority Affirmation is one I say before each and every reading and I cut psychic ties after each and every reading. She taught me well in the matter of spiritual healing hygiene!
It was about this time last year that I realized a pattern in some of the readings I was doing. Sometimes (a lot of time) it was when I put fingers to the keyboard to start bringing through a message that I’d get these words: “There are things you know not of …” and I just knew that was my alert for astral entities. Don’t ask me how I knew, I just did. (It’s one of those there intuitive thingys.) I use the verbiage I was taught which calls on Archangel Michael to do the work with me (okay, fine. He does all the heavy lifting, it’s true. Props to AA Michael.) What I do a bit differently, though, is work with my pendulum in moving these guys out. You don’t have to do it that way, of course. It’s just how it’s evolved for me.
Here’s my process: once I get the hint that entities are clouding things up (and that can be the words above, it can be something like static on the line when I tune in, it can just be a feeling), I check with my pendulum to verify. As soon as I get a yes, the pendulum begins to swing in a counter-clockwise motion. I call in Archangel Michael and we get to work. Once the entities are gone, not only is there a noticeable difference in the energy around me but the pendulum stops and swings in a clockwise direction. Depending on what’s going on with the person I am clearing, this can take five minutes or thirty-five minutes. I did a clearing for someone who is an active alcoholic and it took a good thirty minutes of counter-clockwise swinging to get the entities to depart.
After someone has been cleared of these energetic beings, they may feel lighter or clearer or nothing at all depending on how sensitive they are to the energies around them. Healing of this kind is done on a whole different plane (as I understand it) and the effects may or may not be immediately felt. That’s something to gauge on a case-by-case basis.
Clearing astral entities and cutting cords of attachment are healings and are very different than a reading. That’s why I will be adding spiritual healing to my services in 2011. I pay attention to who shows up as a client, what issues they come to me with and how I can be of service. My last four clients have all had some serious issues with entity attachments and I take that as the Universe reminding me that I have these other skills as well.
Bottom line, though: these dudes are nothing to be afraid of. They just need to shuffle off to the next plane of existence and stop using your energy to hang out down here in the third dimension. I’m sure you’ve got better uses of your light than that!
Here’s a good page for some further reading on astrals: Alchemy Realm and Teachings of the Inner Christ and Dr. Susan Shumsky’s work.
Thanks to all those who were kind enough to take the survey I posted below. It was a treasure trove of information for me and I hope will bring you more of what you are interested in!
Who was our lucky winner of a free 30 minute phone reading?
That would be “randomactscomics” who was kind enough to hip me to issues with my podcast a while back so the Universe gives some goodness back! Congrats!! I’ll be contacting you shortly to schedule a time for our reading.
What did I learn from the survey?
Lots of you (84%) are interested in learning more about cutting energetic cords of attachments, clearing astral entities and other healing work.
Almost 75% of my readers are interested in learning how to work with their Guides and Teachers in Spirit. One of the things I see most often in those with whom I work is the inability to trust what they get. So many people think it’s their imagination or that they are just making things up. I will be writing more about this in the months to come as it’s probably the biggest stumbling block out there. I was blessed to have a mom who demonstrated clearly for me the connection between what she was getting and what was actually happening so that trust came easily for me. I know that’s not the case with most and I’m here to help you figure that part out.
Right behind that at 68% were those who are interested in learning how to receive their own guidance and put it into practice. I can help you with that as well. Although I came to this with a pretty good trust level, early on I’d just hear the guidance and kinda-sorta listen. Maybe once in a while I’d act but mostly I just used it as informational. Somewhere along the line, I got it. I had to do something to make other things happen. (Duh, I know. I can be dense occasionally!) Once I started putting it into practice, things dramatically shifted for me. Dramatically.
And more to that point, as a giveaway for those who signed up for my email list (as well as those who will be signing up in the near future), someone suggested a short document called “I got a reading. Now what do I do?” I loved it. I could probably talk for an hour on that topic but will somehow manage to get it down to one page for now. Many thanks to the astute reader who came up with that one.
So, lots of good things coming down the pike: adding healing services in addition to reading and coaching, shifting some of what I’m offering now (adding a 30 minute reading option in addition to the 60 minute session, for example) and taking things to a new level in 2011.
Thanks again to all my readers who participated in the survey. If you have any other thoughts or suggestions, please always feel free to email me.
As 2010 comes to an end, I’m looking toward taking Practically Intuitive to a new level. I’ll be adding podcasts, teleclasses, group coaching and more! It’s going to be big fun in 2011!
I’d really love to know what you’re interested in when it comes to making your intuition work for you in practical ways. I’ve got years and years of experience and knowledge to share and want to be sure I’m taking things in a direction that is of benefit to you.
